Roast Chicken

This recipe is for a basic roast chicken


  • 1.5 kg chicken
  • Little soy sauce to brush with
  • Onion
  • Garlic or lemon


Wash and dry chicken, removing neck and giblets
Place whole, peeled onion in the cavity of the chicken
Brush skin with Soy Sauce (optional)
Put slices of garlic or lemon under the skin on the breast and legs

Put in oven on rack and cook for 40 minutes at 180°C /350°F
Turn chicken over and cook a further 15 minutes.

My oven is 7 litre and the chicken practically filled it, which is why I had to turn it over.

The recipe says you can cook vegetables with the chicken, but that is not really possible with my oven – there’s not enough space.
